“We have created the perfect space to both reset from the world in ultimate comfort, or host friends and colleagues, in a way like never before.” – Chuck Anderson, Lead Design
The Brief
Renowned architect Chuck Anderson had a unique vision for the Lilypad Palm Beach project: to create a floating villa that would blend with its natural surroundings while providing a luxurious and comfortable experience for guests.
The project required materials that could withstand the harsh marine environment, maintain their aesthetic appeal over time, and contribute to the overall design vision.
In the video showcasing the project, Chuck Anderson emphasises the importance of creating a space that connects with the water and the surrounding landscape. The villa was designed to be a peaceful retreat, offering guests a chance to escape from the everyday world and immerse themselves in the beauty of nature.

The Product
To bring this vision to life, Chuck Anderson turned to Millboard’s Golden Oak decking and Millboard Burnt Cedar wall cladding. These products were chosen for their exceptional durability, low-maintenance properties, and stunning visual appeal.
Millboard’s Golden Oak decking was used to create the expansive outdoor living areas, providing a warm and inviting surface that perfectly complements the villa’s natural surroundings. The decking’s slip-resistant surface also ensures a safe environment for guests, even when wet, making it ideal for this water-based location.
The Burnt Cedar wall cladding was selected to enhance the villa’s exterior, adding a rich, textured appearance that complements the Golden Oak decking. The cladding’s resistance to moisture, rot, and insect damage makes it the perfect choice for the harsh marine environment, ensuring long-lasting beauty and minimal upkeep.

Both the decking and cladding products from Millboard are crafted from a unique combination of natural minerals and resin, resulting in a product that looks and feels like real wood but with superior durability and resistance to the elements. This innovative material technology ensures that Villa Lilypad will maintain its beauty for years to come, with very minimal maintenance required.
The Outcome
The completed Villa Lilypad is a testament to Chuck Anderson’s innovative design and the versatility of Millboard’s products. The floating villa has become a sought-after destination for those seeking a luxurious and unique escape in Palm Beach, Sydney.
Guests have raved about their experiences at Villa Lilypad, with many commenting on the stunning design and the sense of tranquillity it provides. The flawless integration of the Millboard decking and cladding contributes to the overall ambience, creating a space that feels both modern and organic.
